@dansup I'm glad to hear that Pixelfed prioritizes migration.

But regarding nomadic identity versus selfhosting; not everyone can afford to selfhost - or even want to. But they still might want the reliability nomadic identity can give you by being distributed across different hosts.

Plus, the less we bind identity to domain names and specific physical servers, the easier we can move towards a blended federation+p2p future.

What she said about complaining about crush of +40 hours/week but then asking for players to spend that amount of time. That resonated with me. I suddenly realize that most of my games intentionally ask for very little time from the player.

One of the rad things about doing esports day at GDC is that I am reminded that a lot of the cool shit going down is in fighting games, where we're playing for pocket change compared to the Big Games and brewing hype juice in the hotel bathtub. The culture is strong y'all.

people seem to love how modern big budget video games all include mechanics for endless hours of scavenging and crafting.

i hope it's prepping up-and-coming generations to get lil dopamine hits by finding things to reuse and repurpose. that'd be a nice byproduct of gaming for a change.
